Movie Quotes applied to Software Engineering... "I've got a bad feeling about this" from Star Wars!

I finally got round to watching the new Star Wars (that's what it's like having 2 kids at home, babysitters are at a premium!!!), and (no spoilers here) but I was interested to see the following line being muttered again during the film! It reminded me of a series of blog posts I done a while back around famous movie quotes that have been said in films and applying them to Software Engineering/Testing... This particular quote has been said in every single Star Wars film so far! (Star Wars trivia for you there!) But for the purpose of this blog post, how does it apply to Software Engineering? 


Well, as Testers on a development team/project we get to see things that others perhaps don't get to see, we get to speak to everybody about the product that is being developed, we see it from a technical standpoint, from a business standpoint and from a customer standpoint, we really are in a truly unique position, and this is one of the things I love most about Testing.

As a result of this position, we can often find ourselves saying or thinking the above, which is great, providing you have evidence to back it up of course, nobody wants to work with a Debbie Downer!



If you have evidence to back up your particular feelings about a product, then it's perfectly fine to say something like the above, and hopefully people will listen to you and you can start to illustrate just why you have the bad feelings and how you can alleviate them and turn them into positive feelings!

    Star Wars is an amazing movie. But I haven't observed this dialogue in all so far. I love these kind of movies. I'm also doing a degree program in Graphic Design.

Start with the End in Mind - My first presentation at a tech meetup!

I was at a football coaching session the other night, and some other coaches put on a training session for us, so that we could learn and critique it. This is not an easy thing to do, to put something on for your peers and open yourself up to criticism is a difficult thing to do.
